How we compare offers
Salary and bonus are converted to after-tax pay with the same tax engine as all our calculators, using each offer's province, so a move from Ontario to Alberta is counted properly.
Employer RRSP or pension matching is added at face value (it's tax-sheltered now and taxed when you withdraw it). Health and dental is your estimate of what you'd otherwise pay. Extra vacation days are valued at your daily pay, and commuting costs are subtracted.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compare two job offers?
Look at total value after tax: take-home pay from salary and bonus, plus employer RRSP or pension money, benefits and time off, minus costs like commuting.
Is a higher salary always better?
Not always. A lower salary with a strong pension match, better benefits or a province with lower tax can be worth more.
How do I value an RRSP match?
Count the employer's contribution as part of your pay. It grows tax-sheltered, and you pay tax when you withdraw it in retirement.
Does moving provinces change my take-home pay?
Yes. The same salary leaves a different amount after tax in each province; our calculator uses 2026 rates for each.
