The 4 work weeks before the holiday week
How Ontario stat holiday pay works (2026)
Ontario's formula: add up your regular wages and vacation pay for the 4 work weeks before the week of the holiday, then divide by 20. That's your public holiday pay, whether you're full-time, part-time or new.
If you work on the holiday, you get either your regular rate for those hours plus a substitute day off, or public holiday pay plus 1.5 times your regular rate for the hours worked. Overtime on other days works differently; see the overtime pay calculator.
