How the simulator works

Tell it your salary and province, then try one what-if at a time: moving, an RRSP, a side gig, a raise. Each step builds on the one before, and the result under every question shows the change from today. Every figure uses the same federal and provincial brackets, credits, CPP or QPP, EI and QPIP as our income tax calculator, for an employee with no other credits or deductions.

Side gig income pays both halves of CPP and no EI, so you keep less of it than of a raise. An RRSP contribution comes off your taxable income; the simulator caps it at 18% of your salary or the $33,810 limit. Your real limit is on your Notice of Assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Is the tax simulator accurate?

It uses 2026 CRA and provincial rates and the same engine as every MyTaxCalculator tool. It assumes only the basic credits, so your real return can differ if you have other deductions or credits.

Which province has the lowest tax?

It depends on your income. The "What if you moved?" step shows the provinces where you'd keep the most for exactly your pay.

Do I keep less money if a raise moves me into a higher bracket?

No. Only the dollars above the bracket line are taxed at the higher rate. The raise step shows how many cents of every extra dollar you keep.

How much should I set aside from side gig income?

Usually 25% to 40%, depending on your other income and province: income tax plus both halves of CPP. The side gig step works it out for you.

Is my data saved?

No. Your numbers stay in your browser, and only your best game score is remembered on this device.
