B.C. charges property transfer tax of 1% on the first $200,000, 2% up to $2 million and 3% above that, plus another 2% on the part of a home's value over $3 million.

First-time home buyers

First-time buyers pay no tax on the first $500,000 of homes up to $835,000, worth up to $8,000. The exemption shrinks to zero between $835,000 and $860,000. Newly built homes up to $1,100,000 can be fully exempt.
