The GST/HST credit is a tax-free quarterly payment for people with low and modest incomes. From July 2026 it is called the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB). The eligibility rules are the same and you don't need to apply again.

How much is the GST credit / CGEB? (July 2026 to June 2027)
These are maximums, about 25% more than the old GST/HST credit. The increase runs from 2026 to 2031. Your amount is lower at higher family incomes and is based on your 2025 tax return. If you're owed less than $50 for the year, the CRA pays it all in July.

Is the GST credit being replaced?
It was renamed. As of July 2026, the GST/HST credit is the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB). It has the same eligibility and the same quarterly schedule, with larger amounts.
Was there a one-time GST top-up payment in 2026?
Yes. A one-time GST/HST credit top-up was paid on June 5, 2026 to people who were entitled to the credit in January 2026.
When is the next GST payment?
The remaining 2026 payment is on Monday, October 5, 2026. The next one is in January 2027.
