Sales Tax in Saskatchewan (2026)
Saskatchewan charges the 5% federal GST plus a 6% PST, a combined 11%. The PST rose from 5% to 6% in March 2017.
- GST and PST are separate taxes, both charged on the pre-tax price.
- Saskatchewan's PST applies to restaurant meals and a growing list of services, so check a receipt carefully: some items carry both taxes and some only GST.
- Basic groceries and prescription drugs are exempt from both taxes.

How to Calculate GST + PST in Saskatchewan
Adding tax: a $1,000 purchase in Saskatchewan carries $50.00 GST and $60.00 PST, for $110.00 in tax and a total of $1,110.00 ($1,000 × 1.11).
Removing tax: a $250.00 receipt that includes tax works out to $250.00 ÷ 1.11 = $225.23 before tax, so the tax paid was $24.77. Don't just take 11% off the total: that gives $222.50 and understates the tax.
