T4 box 10: province of employment
Your employer issues a T4 for every job you had during the year, by the end of February.
- What it is
- The province or territory where you reported for work, shown as a two-letter code such as ON or BC. ZZ means you worked outside Canada.
- Where it goes on your return
- Nothing to enter. It's for the CRA. Your provincial tax is based on where you lived on December 31, not this box.
- If you moved during the year, the province in box 10 can differ from your home province, and that's normal.
- Your employer withholds provincial tax based on box 10, so moving between provinces can leave you with a refund or a balance owing.
